Garage 59 switches to McLaren 720S GT3 in 2022

British race team, Garage 59, has today announced that it will race a pair of McLaren 720S GT3 cars, starting with the 2022 Asian Le Mans Series, which takes place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in February. The 2019 GT World Challenge Europe Pro-Am Endurance Champions will announce the driver line-ups for its cars in the New Year.

With a healthy 25-car entry lined up for the GT class, its biggest entry so far, the 2022 Asian Le Mans Series looks set to be another thriller. The Dubai round in 2021 was the scene of Garage 59’s first podium of the year when Alexander West, Maxime Martin and Valentin Hasse-Clot took third place in the second of the two races at the Dubai Autodrome in the #88 Aston Martin Vantage. The rounds in Abu Dhabi netted multiple Top 10 finishes but the team will be heading back to fight for the top positions in 2022.

Garage 59 Team Principal, Andrew Kirkaldy said: “Garage 59 has a rich history with McLaren and it’s great to be back with them for 2022. The 720S looked very promising throughout last year so we are really looking forward to getting out there with ours and going racing!”

The McLaren 720S GT3 was built to perform on the world’s most demanding circuits and designed to excel under the extreme pressures of endurance racing. It competed for the first time with a customer team at Albert Park in Melbourne in 2019, where it claimed pole position and the race victory. The team is looking forward to seeing what it can do in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Garage 59 continues to make plans for the remainder of the 2022 season and these will also be revealed in the New Year once finalised.
