Garage 59's Big Weekend

Garage 59 faces one of its biggest logistical challenges of the season this weekend, with two major races taking place in two different countries in the space of 24 hours. On Saturday, the GT World Challenge Europe season reaches its conclusion at Portimão in Portugal, before Sunday brings the inaugural FIA World Endurance Championship ‘6 Hours of Barcelona’ in Spain.

There will be plenty of crossover between the two programmes. Tom Fleming and Benji Goethe will race for Garage 59 at Portimão before turning their attention to their WEC duties in Barcelona. Marvin Kirchhöfer will focus solely on WEC this weekend, with Jack Hawksworth stepping into his GT World Challenge seat in the #59 McLaren for the season finale.

In Barcelona, Garage 59 will take on the penultimate round of the WEC season at a circuit making its first appearance on the WEC championship calendar. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya combines a long main straight with fast, flowing corners and more technical sections, a layout the team knows well. With important business to take care of in both championships, it promises to be one of the busiest weekends of the season.

“I really hope we can finish the season with a couple of great results. We’ve shown that we have the pace but at the last round we got a little unlucky with a late yellow and had to roll the dice, staying on old tyres for the final fight, which didn’t work out for us. I’m excited for Barcelona. Garage 59 has had good success there over the years in GT World Challenge, which I hope we can use to our advantage and get onto that podium.”

“With just two rounds to go in our first WEC season, we are back on familiar territory. We regularly race in Barcelona and it has been a good track for us in the past so I hope we can use that knowledge to our advantage this weekend. It’s going to be a very busy weekend as I am also racing in the final GT World Challenge Europe race at Portimão on Saturday so I will be clocking up some extra air miles!”
