Garage 59 enters two McLaren 720S GT3s in the Gulf 12 Hours

Just when you thought the racing season was over, Garage 59 today announces a two-car entry into the 2022 Gulf 12 Hours.

Taking place at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 11 December, the Gulf 12 Hours has been held annually since 2012, bringing together many of the world’s best GT drivers, cars and teams to compete for the outright victory. This year’s race is already shaping up to be a classic after attracting its biggest entry of GT3 cars yet.

In the #88 Garage 59 McLaren, Alexander West and McLaren factory driver Marvin Kirchhöfer will be joined by reigning GT World Challenge Europe Silver Cup Champion, 19 year-old Benjamin Goethe.

“I’m really looking forward to my first race in the McLaren and with Garage 59; I’m excited about that,” said Goethe. “Abu Dhabi is a great race track too so it should be a good experience all round. Hopefully we can achieve a good result!”

The #93 McLaren, adorned in the familiar Sky Tempesta livery, will be raced by Jonathan Hui, Eddie Cheever, Chris Frogatt and Kevin Tse.

“My first ever GT3 race was at the Gulf 12 Hours resulting in a podium finish in the Am class so I have fond memories of the Yas Marina circuit,” said Hui. “I'm excited to be working with Garage 59 for the first time, once a formidable competitor in previous years and a team I have great respect and admiration for. I've only had a brief taste of the 720S GT3 in Barcelona but felt comfortable straight away; undoubtedly the learning curve will be steep but I'm up for the challenge!”

This will be the first Gulf 12 Hours for Garage 59, although the team has plenty of experience of the Yas Marina Circuit thanks to being regular competitors in the Asian Le Mans Series.

The 2022 Gulf 12 Hours will get underway on Sunday 11 December at 10:00hrs local time. Qualifying will take place the preceding day, starting at 17:30hrs.
