Sprint Cup campaign continues on home soil this weekend

The GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup action takes place on home soil this weekend for the Garage 59 team as the series heads to Brands Hatch in Kent. The UK round had to be cancelled last year due to Covid-19 restrictions so after a two-year wait the British fans will get to see the GT World Challenge cars in action again.

With a full grid of 29 GT3 cars and good weather forecast, the two races on Brands Hatch’s famous Grand Prix Circuit, look set to provide some thrilling excitement on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Alexander West and Jonny Adam are sitting in third place in the Pro-Am standings after taking their maiden Sprint Cup victory at Misano in June. Adam is fighting fit, after having to sit out Spa due to a positive Covid test, and ready to show just what the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 can do at Brands Hatch.

“I can’t wait to race at Brands Hatch as it’s one of my all-time favourite tracks and the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is very good around the Grand Prix circuit,” said Adam. “With the championship being so tight it’s important for us to qualify well on Saturday afternoon. It’s our home race too as it’s the only time the championship comes to the UK so it will be great for Alex and the team to deliver great results this weekend!”

Nicolai Kjærgaard and Tuomas Tujula (along with Valentin Hasse-Clot and Alex MacDowall) took their first podium finish of the season last time out at the 24 Hours of Spa. The drivers of the Silver Cup class #159 Aston Martin want to keep that positive momentum going as they continue their Sprint Cup campaign.

“We definitely don’t want to leave it there after our first podium of the season at Spa,” said Tujula. “I hope that racing at Brands Hatch will give us a slight home field advantage and that we can capitalise on that. As this is the home race for the team and for Aston Martin, I think all of us are going to be extra motivated for the weekend. Personally it will be my first time racing at Brands Hatch so I’m going to do my best to make sure I have a good debut there!”

Brands Hatch is a two-day event so the format is slightly different to normal. Free Practice, Pre-Qualifying and both Qualifying sessions will take place on Saturday and the two, one-hour races will get underway on Sunday at 11:00hrs and at 15:45hrs. Viewers can catch all the action live on the ‘GT World’ YouTube channel.
