Not even torrential rain could put a dampener on Louis Prette and Tom Fleming’s assault on the GT World Challenge Europe Gold Cup Drivers’ Championship title, which they clinched at the penultimate race of the season in Barcelona.

The pair have been a force to reckon with this year and have fought hard to earn this title, which they have done with a race still in hand. For Prette this has been a long time coming but it is proof that persistence pays off.

He said: “I’m very proud that we finally won a championship with Garage 59 and McLaren. It has been something of a rollercoaster season for our car. On our strongest weekends, we had the performance to fight for class wins and challenge for strong overall results, while on others, such as Barcelona, the outcome was not representative of the pace we showed. Throughout it all, we always knew we had a very competitive car underneath us, and just as importantly, a team capable of finding solutions whenever things did not go our way.

“I also could not have asked for a better team-mate in Tom. We have now been working together for two years, and I believe our partnership continues to grow stronger with every race. With one round still to go, we remain firmly in contention for the Endurance title. You can be sure we will be fully focused from the outset as we push to end the season by securing that championship as well.”

Fleming added: “I’m absolutely thrilled for the team to achieve the Overall Gold Cup Drivers’ Championship title this year. The team deserves every bit of success. We have had a lot of setbacks and difficult moments, so to bank this title a round early is a great testament to the strength and excellence of this group.”
